Standup Randomizer

Shuffle who speaks when, show who's up next, and keep every update short with a friendly countdown.

One name per line. Save your team once, then load it every morning.

Press Shuffle & start to set a random speaking order. Each person gets a countdown, and the next name is always on screen.

How to run standup with the randomizer

  1. Enter everyone’s names, or press Load my team if you’ve saved your team before.
  2. Choose how long each person gets. Ninety seconds suits most standups.
  3. Press Shuffle & start and share your screen. The current speaker, their countdown, and who’s up next are always visible.
  4. Press Next person (or the space bar) when someone finishes. Use Not here for anyone who’s out.

Why randomize the standup order?

When standup always runs in the same order, the same people go first every day, and the people at the end tend to rush or tune out. A random order keeps everyone alert, mixes up who sets the tone, and removes the awkward “who wants to go next?” pause. It also takes the decision off the facilitator, so nobody wonders whether the order means anything.

Keeping standup short

A per-person timebox is the simplest way to stop standup from drifting toward 30 minutes. Most teams aim for about a minute or two each: what you did, what you’re doing next, and anything that’s blocking you. When a topic needs more discussion, note it and pick it up after standup with just the people who need to be there.

Made for screen sharing

The speaker’s name is big enough to read on a video call, the next person can see they’re coming up, and Full screen turns it into a clean display for a meeting room TV. The order is shuffled with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator, so nobody gets stuck going first every day.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when someone runs over time?

The ring turns red, a gentle chime plays once, and the timer counts up so everyone can see how far over it is. Nothing cuts anyone off.

Can I use it without a timer?

Yes. Choose No timer and the randomizer just shows the current speaker and who’s next.

How do I skip someone who's absent?

Press Not here while their name is showing. They’re marked as absent and the next person is up.

Does it remember my team?

Yes. Press Save as my team once and Load my team fills in the names next time, here and in the other team tools. The list is stored only in your browser.

Can I mute the sounds?

Yes. Press Sound on to switch sounds off. Your choice applies across the site.
