How to make a chore chart
- List everyone who shares the chores, one per line, or press Load my team.
- List the chores or duties. For an on-call rotation or a weekly meeting host, list just one duty.
- Choose how often jobs rotate, the start date, and how many weeks (or days or months) to plan.
- Press Make the chart, then Print it for the fridge, Add to calendar to get it in your calendar app, or Copy share link to send it to everyone.
A chore wheel without the wheel
The classic chore wheel is two paper circles: names on one, chores on the other, turned one notch each week. This chart does the same thing, but you can see every week at once, print it for the fridge, and put it in everyone’s calendar.
- Roommates and families. Dishes, trash, bathroom, vacuuming, laundry, pet care.
- Classroom jobs. Line leader, door holder, plant waterer, paper passer. Rotate weekly so every student gets every job.
- Teams. On-call, standup host, retro facilitator, release captain, or who brings the snacks.
Tips for chores that actually get done
- Rotate on the same day each week, like Sunday evening, so everyone knows when jobs change.
- Keep chores similar in size. Combine small jobs, like taking out the trash and the recycling, so no week feels unfair.
- Plan a full cycle. With 4 people, plan 4, 8, or 12 weeks so everyone does every job equally often.
- Share it. Copy share link sends the exact same chart to everyone, and Add to calendar puts each person’s turns in their calendar.
Frequently asked questions
How does the rotation stay fair?
Each period, everyone moves one job along the list, like a chore wheel. With 4 people and 4 chores, after 4 weeks everyone has done every chore exactly once. Plan a multiple of the number of people to keep it perfectly even.
What if there are more people than chores?
Some people get a week off each turn, and the days off rotate too, so nobody gets more than their share.
What if there are more chores than people?
People take more than one chore at a time, and the extra chores rotate as well, so everyone still does every job equally often.
Can I use it for on-call or a meeting rotation?
Yes. List one duty, like On call or Standup host, and choose weekly or daily rotation. With Skip weekends, a daily rotation only counts Monday through Friday.
How do I get it into my calendar?
Press Add to calendar to download an .ics file, then open it with Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, or Outlook. Each turn becomes an all-day event like Dishes: Ava.
