How to make a bracket
- Give your bracket a name and list the entrants, one per line. Players, teams, snacks, movies: anything works.
- Choose Random draw to shuffle the matchups, or Keep my order as seeds if your list is already ranked.
- Press Make the bracket, then tap the winner of each match to send them to the next round.
- Use Copy share link to send the bracket to others, or Print to put it on the wall.
Bracket ideas for teams, classes, and friends
- Office tournaments. Ping-pong, foosball, or a video game showdown at the team social.
- The great debate. Best pizza topping, best snack in the break room, or the best movie of the decade. Vote on each matchup and tap the winner.
- Classroom challenges. Spelling bees, trivia rounds, or “which invention changed the world most?”
- Game night. A quick knockout for any two-player game.
How seeding and byes work
With Random draw, entrants are shuffled with your browser’s cryptographically secure random number generator before they’re placed. With Keep my order, the first name is the top seed, and the bracket is arranged so the top seeds can’t meet until the later rounds, just like in pro tournaments.
If you don’t have exactly 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 entrants, the bracket fills the gap with byes. With 6 entrants, for example, the bracket has 8 slots, so the top two seeds skip the first round.
It remembers your bracket
The bracket is saved in your browser as you go, so you can close the tab and come back to it later. Nothing is uploaded.
Frequently asked questions
How many entrants can a bracket have?
From 3 to 64. Brackets fill out to 4, 8, 16, 32, or 64 slots, and any empty slots become byes.
What is a bye?
When the number of entrants isn’t a power of two, some entrants skip the first round and go straight through. Byes always go to the top seeds, and two byes never meet.
Can I change a result?
Yes. Tap the other name in the match. Any later matches that depended on the old result are cleared so the bracket stays consistent.
How does sharing work?
The share link contains the whole bracket, including results so far. Whoever opens it gets their own copy to continue. Changes on their copy don’t update yours.
Does it do double elimination?
Not yet. This generator makes single-elimination brackets, where one loss and you’re out.
