How to make a seating chart
- Enter everyone’s names and set the number of rows and seats per row to match your room.
- Add any pairs who shouldn’t sit together, one pair per line.
- Press Make seating chart. Tap any two seats to swap them, then print or copy the chart.
Why randomize seating?
A fresh seating chart mixes up friend groups, gives quieter students a new set of neighbors, and takes the “why do I always sit here?” debate off the table. Because the chart is random, it feels fair, and the keep-apart list quietly handles the pairs who’d rather chat than work.
Beyond the classroom
- Workshops and trainings. Seat people from different teams together.
- Team offsites. Mix up who sits next to whom at dinner.
- Exams. Separate study partners so everyone does their own work.
Tips
- Set the rows and seats to match how your desks or tables are actually arranged, with the front of the room at the top.
- For group tables instead of rows, the team generator splits people into even groups.
Frequently asked questions
What counts as sitting together?
Directly side by side, or directly in front or behind. Diagonal seats are allowed, which leaves more room to find a layout.
What happens to empty seats?
When there are more seats than people, the empty seats are left at the back of the room.
Can I move someone after the chart is made?
Yes. Tap one seat, then tap another, and the two swap. Tap an empty seat to move someone into it.
Is the chart saved?
Your names, room size, and keep-apart pairs are saved in this browser. Print or copy the chart to keep a particular layout, because Shuffle again makes a new one.
